PIGMENTATION
Pigmentation refers to areas of the skin that are a different colour to the surrounding skin. These areas can be dark (hyperpigmentation) or light (hypopigmentation), can be patchy or uneven.
Types of pigmentation include:
Ephelides: That are round, flat, irregular but well-defined border, colours vary from dark brown, light brown through to reddish appearance. They are most commonly located on face, arms and upper body and are caused by UVR exposure and genetics.
Lentigines: A singular lesion or as multiple lesions, varying in size. Colours vary from Yellow to dark brown and are generally well defined. More common on face and back of hands but anywhere on the body that has extended exposure to UVR.
Post Inflammatory Pigmentation: Colour varies from pink, red, purple, brown through to black. It is influenced by the client's natural skin type and the depth of the pigmentation. This can occur anywhere on the body where injury or inflammation has occurred. This is caused by the body's natural response to skin trauma or wound, acne, inflammatory disease and allergic reactions.
