What is Fractional laser?
Fractional Laser is a skin resurfacing treatment that uses laser technology to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping to repair and rejuvenate the skin.
Fractional Laser helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scars, sun damage, uneven tone and skin texture.
Most clients describe the treatment as a warm, prickling sensation. A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to ensure comfort.
The number of sessions depends on your skin goals. Some clients see results after one session, but a series of treatments often gives the best outcome.
You may experience redness, swelling, or mild peeling for a few days after treatment. Most people can return to normal activities within 3–5 days.
Initial improvements may be visible within a week, with continued results developing over the following weeks as collagen production increases.
Fractional Laser is safe for many skin types, but a consultation is required to ensure it’s the right treatment for your skin.

To ensure the best results and minimise risks, follow these pre-care guidelines before your laser neocollagenesis, fractional laser and IPL session:

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun, tanning beds, and avoid self-tanning products for at least 2–4 weeks before treatment. Always use SPF 30+ on exposed areas..
  • Discontinue Irritating Skincare: Stop using retinoids, retinol, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, and exfoliants on the treatment area for 1 week before your session.
  • Remove All Products: Arrive with clean skin—no makeup, creams, lotions, deodorants, perfumes, or fake tan on the treatment area.
  • Inform Your Provider: Let your technician know if you have a history of cold sores (antiviral medication may be recommended), hyperpigmentation, or if you are taking any photosensitising medications (these should be stopped 3–14 days prior, as advised by your provider).
  • General Skin Care: Exfoliate and moisturise daily in the week leading up to your appointment, but not on the day of treatment.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area

What can I expect after my treatment?

Laser neocollagenesis is a gentle, non-invasive treatment with little to no downtime.  After your session, you may notice mild warmth or redness in the skin that usually settles within a few hours. A healthy glow—many clients say their skin feels smoother and looks more radiant within days

You’ll have an immediate darkening of the pigmentation (IPL), the skin will feel warm and tingly. This may last for 24 hours. Over the next week or so after the treatment, brown spots and pigmented areas will turn darker and/or appear more obvious as the body breaks down the melanin that has been released. The real results become evident after 2 weeks when you will visibly notice a reduction in pigmentation, redness and improvement in overall skin tone.

What precautions should I take pre and post?

There is no downtime to laser neocollagenesis or IPL and you can resume normal activities immediately. However you should avoid the following for 24 hours:

  • Strenuous exercise
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • Scrubbing, rubbing, shaving or waxing the treatment area.
  • Using medical grade vitamin A retinol

It is also recommended to avoid the following for two weeks:

  • Direct exposure to sun or uv light
  • Extended exposure to heat or freezing temperatures

Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching. If you experience crusting on the treatment area you can apply a rescue balm or ice pack to aid with healing.

We always recommend the use of sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above should be used daily. If you are under the sun for prolonged periods of time, sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least once every two hours.
