Please note, your tattooist will advise you on which method is most appropriate for you to follow. It will depend on your skin type and the treatment method as to which aftercare method you should follow. To achieve the best results and minimise risks, clients should follow these preparation steps before a cosmetic tattoo procedure:
- Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine: Do not consume alcohol or caffeinated drinks for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as these can increase bleeding and sensitivity.
- Discontinue Blood Thinners: Stop taking blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen) and supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and certain herbal products at least 1–2 weeks prior, unless prescribed by your doctor.
- Pause Active Skincare: Cease using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin A, C, and E products, and exfoliants on the treatment area for 1–2 weeks before your appointment to reduce skin sensitivity.
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun, tanning beds, and avoid sunburn for at least 2 weeks before your procedure, as this can affect pigment retention and healing.
- No Waxing or Tinting: Do not wax, tweeze, thread, tint, or laminate the treatment area for at least 1–2 weeks prior.
- Pause Skin Treatments: Avoid peels, laser, microdermabrasion, or needling in the area for 2–3 weeks before your appointment.
- Arrive with Clean Skin: On the day, cleanse the area thoroughly and do not apply makeup, creams, or serums to the treatment site.
- Consultation and Health: Inform your artist of any allergies, medical conditions, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (cosmetic tattooing is not recommended in these cases).
Following these steps helps ensure a safe procedure and optimal, long-lasting results.
